Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council Division 5 By-Election

A by-election to fill a vacancy in the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council, Division 5 is being held in November and December 2021. Early voting will be held during the week of Monday 29 November, with election day on Saturday 4 December.

As required by the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, the system of voting for divided councils is optional preferential voting. To make your vote count, you must number one, some, or all the candidates on your ballot paper, in order of preference starting with 1.

Early voting opens soon

Early voting is between 9am and 6pm on Friday 3 December at The Seisia Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Tumema Street, Seisia.

Election day voting is between 8am and 6pm on Saturday 4 December at The Seisia Indigenous Knowledge Centre.

Other ways to cast your vote

Postal vote

If you have applied for a postal vote, complete and return it as soon as you receive it. You must complete your vote by 6pm Saturday 4 December 2021, and the ECQ must receive it by Tuesday 14 December 2021 for your vote to be counted.

Telephone vote

Telephone voting is available for electors who cannot postal vote or attend a polling place in person.

For the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council by-election, this will include overseas and interstate electors, and people in quarantine or self-isolating after a COVID-19 test.

Telephone voting requires two phone calls. The first one to register, the second one to vote.

Registration for telephone voting opens at 9am on Monday 22 November and closes at 12 noon on election day, Saturday 4 December.

You must complete your telephone vote before 6pm on election day.

COVID-19 measures

A COVID-safe plan will be in place for all polling places and venues for the by-election. You will need to check in using the Check in Qld app. Other measures such as cleaning, sanitation and physical distancing will also be implemented based on advice from the Queensland's Chief Health Officer.
