2017 Redistribution

Queensland’s current electoral boundaries were set in 2017 when the Queensland Redistribution Commission published its final determination.

The redistribution started on 24 June 2016 with the invitation to submit suggestions and concluded on 16 June 2017 following the 21-day appeal period for the final redistribution. The boundaries came into effect on 29 October 2017 with the issue of the writ for the 2017 State general election.

For the 2017 redistribution, the number of electorates was increased from 89 to 93 following passage of legislation by the Queensland Parliament. This meant that the redistribution made significant changes to Queensland’s electoral boundaries. Only two electorates – Southern Downs and Townsville – did not have boundary changes.

Full details of the 2017 redistribution, including the final report, public submissions and maps are available on the Electoral Commission of Queensland website.
