Over time people move in and around Queensland, altering the balance of voters in each electorate. A state redistribution is undertaken so that each electoral district contains a similar number of voters. This ensures each person's vote carries equal weight at the ballot box.
Queensland Redistribution Commission:
The Queensland Redistribution Commission (QRC) is an independent body established to administer Queensland's state boundary reviews. The QRC consists of:
- a judge or former judge of a court of the Commonwealth, a State or Territory to act as Chairperson;
- the Electoral Commissioner of Queensland; and
- the chief executive of a department (or equivalent).
The previous state boundary reviews administered by the QRC occurred in 1999, 2008 and 2017. See Redistribution Reference Materials for more information.
