State electorate redistributions

Over time, people move in and around Queensland, altering the balance of voters in each electorate. A state redistribution is undertaken so that each electoral district contains a similar number of voters. This ensures each person's vote carries equal weight at the ballot box.

Queensland Redistribution Commission:

The Queensland Redistribution Commission (QRC) is an independent body established to administer Queensland's state boundary reviews. The QRC consists of:

  • a judge or former judge of a court of the Commonwealth, a State or Territory to act as Chairperson;
  • the Electoral Commissioner of Queensland; and
  • the chief executive of a department (or equivalent).

The previous state boundary reviews administered by the QRC occurred in 1999, 2008 and 2017.

2017 Queensland Redistribution Commission Review

The current state electoral boundaries became effective on the 29th October 2017. These boundaries will remain in place until the next state redistribution is finalised.

2008 Queensland Redistribution Commission Review

The 2008 redistribution of Queensland's state electoral boundaries became effective on 10th September 2008. These boundaries remained in place until the writ for the 2017 State Election was issued.

1999 Queensland Redistribution Commission Review

The 1999 redistribution was the first to be conducted by the Queensland Redistribution Commission. These boundaries remained in place until the completion and implementation of the 2008 boundary redistribution.
