Polling Booths on polling day
You can vote at any polling booth within Queensland on polling day between 8:00am and 6:00pm. You will receive a Voter Information Letter before polling day which will contain your enrolment details and the polling booths in your area that you can vote at. A full list of all polling booths in Queensland will be available on the website at election time.

Absent Voting
If you are in Queensland on polling day but are away from your enrolled district, you can still vote as an absent voter at any polling booth. To cast your absent vote see the issuing officers at the declaration vote desk at any polling booth.
If you have moved to a different electoral district, and have not yet updated your enrolment details you can cast an absent vote for your old address at any polling booth in Queensland.
If you have moved within the same electoral district, and have not yet updated your details you can vote at any polling booth within your district as an ordinary voter. Don’t forget to complete an enrolment form at the same time that you vote.

Pre-poll Voting before polling day
You can apply to vote before polling day (pre-poll vote).
Pre-poll voting begins three days after nominations close and ends at 6.00pm on the day before polling day.
A full list of pre-poll offices located throughout Queensland, interstate and overseas will be available on the website once an election has been announced.

Postal Voting
You can apply to receive a postal vote if you are unable to attend a polling place on polling day because;
• You will be interstate or overseas (you should apply before you leave)
• You are ill, have a disability or are in advanced stages of pregnancy
• You care for a person who is ill, has a disability or is pregnant
• You belong to a religious order, or because of religious beliefs; or
• You will be working or travelling on polling day.
Your postal vote application is to be sent to the Returning Officer for your District or the Commission by 6:00pm on the Thursday before polling day. You will be sent a ballot paper and declaration envelope, which you must complete by 6:00pm on polling day. You must then return your vote in the envelope provided so that it is received by the Returning Officer no later than 6:00pm on the 10th day after polling day.
Postal Vote application forms will be available on the website once the next election has been announced.

Electoral Visitor Voting
You can apply to have an Electoral Officer come to your home to take your vote if;
• You are ill at home, have a disability or are in advanced stages of pregnancy
• You are caring for someone who is ill, has a disability or is pregnant.
You must complete and return the application to the Returning Officer for your district before 6:00pm on the Thursday before polling day. The Returning Officer will then arrange for an Electoral Official to visit you.
Electoral Visit Vote application forms will be available on the website once the next election has been announced.

Declared Institution Voting
If you are in a Nursing Home or Aged Care facility, the Returning Officer for your electoral district may send a mobile polling team to your institution (if it has been approved as a Declared Institution) to take the patients/residents votes. A full list of all Declared Institutions will be available on the website after the election has been announced. You can also check with administrative staff of the institution to confirm when (or if) mobile polling officials will be visiting.

Remote area Voting
If you live in a community in a remote area, such as the outer islands in the Torres Strait, the Commission will arrange for mobile polling teams of officials to take your vote during the week before polling day. Posters are sent to each community displaying the date and time the mobile polling team will visit. In addition to the posters, the Commission places advertisements in the Torres News newspaper and on the radio advising voters in the area of the mobile polling teams’ visiting times.

Overseas Voting
If you are living or holidaying Overseas you can apply for a postal vote or arrange a pre-poll vote at one of the pre-poll venues located abroad. Postal Vote application forms and a full list of overseas pre-poll centres will be available on the website once the election has been announced.

Special Postal Voters
If you are registered as a Special Postal Voter for State election purposes prior to the close of rolls you will automatically receive your ballot paper and declaration envelope. You must complete your ballot paper by 6:00pm on polling day and return your vote in the envelope provided so as it is received by the Returning Officer no later than 6:00pm on the 10th day after polling day.
