Local Government Change Reviews

The Local Government Change Commission is responsible for the review of local government changes including internal and external electoral boundaries and electoral arrangements.

Recent reviews completed by the Change Commission and finalised by the Governor in Council include.

Hills District Review

Click here to view the Change Commission's final determination on a proposal to move the Hills District (Everton Hills, Ferny Hills and Arana Hills) and Bunya from Moreton Bay Regional Council to Brisbane City Council.

Reviews of divided councils

For those councils whose internal divisions are ‘out of quota’, the Change Commission is required to review the internal electoral boundaries to ensure that each division has an approximately equal number of electors.

Review of councils' electoral arrangements

Councils may apply to the Minister for Local Government for a voluntary change to their existing arrangements. The Minister may also of his own accord refer a council’s arrangements to the Change Commission for review.

Proposals typically request a change from an undivided to a divided structure, or vice versa, or a change in the number of elected councillors.

*For the Townsville City Council, Gympie Regional Council and Fraser Coast Regional Council the Change Commission was required to conduct two reviews in each case. The first reviews recommended that each council move from an undivided to a divided council. The Commission was then required to conduct a further review of each council to draw up new internal boundaries.
