In an election, a majority of candidates are members of registered political parties. Historically, three political parties have dominated the Queensland Parliament: the Australian Labor Party, the National Party of Australia and the Liberal Party of Australia. At election time, candidates of registered political parties campaign for votes by promoting their party’s policy platforms. Other candidates contest elections as independents or as members of unregistered parties. Only registered parties are listed in the Register of Political Parties and this document contains the Register of Political Parties
and the Party Constitutions. For more information on how to register as a candidate in a State general election, see Candidates. |
